Magic Hour Press is now accepting submission queries for its 2021/2022 slate! Please read carefully…
To start, please make sure your story and manuscript are in line with our mission statement (you can read it at the top of this page). Magic Hour Press publishes novel length works of fiction that revolve around Southern California and the film industry. Your story and manuscript must adhere to this — it must be novel length, it must be fiction, and it must revolve around the film industry and/or Southern California — all other works will not be considered.
The ONE (1) exception to this rule is that we will consider True Hollywood or Los Angeles memoir by well-known, iconic, notable, famous, indie-famous, or simply fantastic Southern California residents that we consider to have lived interesting lives. However, the memoir must be written by the narrator/protagonist of the story — i.e. No ghostwriters. We seek to build relationships and work closely with our regional authors. Anyone looking to be published by us must have written their own work.
As Magic Hour Press aims to publish regional fiction of exceptional quality and literary merit from regional writers, priority will be given to authors living in the Hollywood, Los Angeles, and Southern California area(s). However, all authors will be considered as long as their story revolves around the film industry and/or takes place in Southern California. Accuracy regarding time and place in the story and text is expected. Please read our ABOUT PAGE to get a feel for the kind of work we seek to aim and publish, as well as the authors we like.
ALL EMAIL QUERIES MUST ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING FORMAT…
-The SUBJECT LINE should read: Query — Book Title — Author
-This should be followed by a short INTRODUCTION introducing yourself and your work.
-This should be followed by an INFORMATION BLOCK in this format:

Also, if you have a chapter outline — or a summary of each chapter — feel free to submit it along with your sample chapters. A chapter outline is ideal, but not required.
You can email all queries to — MagicHourPress@Gmail.com
PLEASE QUERY FIRST. DO NOT SEND YOUR FULL MANUSCRIPT WITH YOUR INITIAL QUERY. QUERIES WITH FULL MANUSCRIPTS WILL BE DELETED IMMEDIATELY AND WRITERS WILL NO LONGER BE CONSIDERED.
*Please note, Magic Hour Press is highly selective and only publishes work we not only believe in, but want to foster and bring out into the world. We believe in quality over quantity, and seek to build long term relationships with our authors. At this point for the company, we will likely only be publishing 1-3 novel length works of fiction a year. That said, this all takes time, and we are only able to respond to queries we feel have potential for our imprint. If we do not respond to your query it does not mean that your work is not exceptional, it just means that we know off the bat it’s not right for us. Keep writing, stay positive, and keep searching and you will find a home for your manuscript.
THANK YOU. AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO READING YOUR WORK IN 2020 AND BEYOND!
